International
Conference on Tropical Agrifood, Feed, and Fuel (ICTAFF) 2024
Will Be Held in Samarinda by Faperta Unmul
The effort to relocate Indonesia's
capital from Jakarta to the Capital of the Archipelago (IKN) in East Kalimantan
necessitates substantial support for meeting basic needs, including food
security. The development of the IKN must consider food security as a crucial
aspect that must be maintained as part of national security.
Sustainable agriculture plays a vital
role in strengthening food security, both at the national and global levels.
Sustainable agriculture can help boost food security by increasing agricultural
productivity, reducing vulnerability to natural disasters, improving soil and
water quality, and improving equitable access and distribution of food.
The demand to implement sustainable
agriculture through advanced technology is an essential issue in
agricultural development and requires attention and cooperation from many
parties. Therefore, the Faculty of Agriculture - Mulawarman University
initiated a scientific forum entitled "International Conference on
Tropical Agrifood, Feed and Fuel" with the theme "Reshaping the
future of food security in IKN Nusantara through advanced and sustainable
agriculture".
The International Conference on
Agrifood, Feed and Fuel, or abbreviated as ICTAFF, is an international seminar event
held periodically by the Faculty of Agriculture – Mulawarman University. Following
the success of the first ICTAFF in 2018, the second ICTAFF took place in 2021,
the third in 2023, and the fourth in October 2024.
The 4th ICTAFF featured keynote
speakers from several countries, including Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam,
Thailand, and Indonesia, who were highly competent in their respective fields. The
4th ICTAFF also invites speakers from various institutions, such as
universities, related agencies, and related research institutions, to convey
the results of their latest research based on eight sub-themes of the seminar (food
resilience and security, waste management, smart agriculture, agribusiness,
agricultural product technology, animal sciences, biosciences, halal food).
The 4th ICTAFF event became more special because it coincided with the
implementation of FKPTPI (Indonesian Agricultural College Communication Forum),
which invited all deans from all faculties of agriculture in Indonesia to the
forum.
The purpose of the 4th ICTAFF
activity in 2024 is to serve as a forum for researchers, academics, educators,
education staff, consultants, government officials, and other stakeholders to
share perspectives on agriculture and food security. Through this event, it is
hoped that outputs will be produced that can be used as a reference in the
development of food security in the Nusantara IKN.
